In the world of bespoke bridal wear, the journey of creation is often as beautiful as the final piece itself.
While every story is unique, some are woven with threads of profound trust that bridge continents.

The story of our bride, Zoya, is one such tale—a collaboration that began not with the bride, but with the heartfelt dedication of her family.
It’s a beautiful testament to modern love, family bonds, and the timeless language of craft.
The Bespoke Journey for a Chikankari Lehenga Begins with Trust
Our journey with Zoya began in a way that was beautifully unconventional, speaking volumes about the world we live in, where connections are forged digitally.
I hadn't actually met Zoya when she placed the order for her bridal outfit; we had only been in touch online, which is so normal now, I suppose! I met her family and her fiancé, Abaan, first.
He came to visit India to finalize all of Zoya's outfits. As an architect with a designer for a mother, they were the perfect eyes on the ground for Zoya.

It was an absolute pleasure to observe how diligently Abaan went about the task of sorting out his bride-to-be's outfits.
As anyone getting married knows, shopping for clothes is not an easy task, and shopping for your partner can be even harder! Once all the approvals were met, her mother-in-law continued to follow up with me at every step.
She did this in the most poised and encouraging manner, making sure her future daughter would receive the Nikah outfit of her dreams.
A Kotwara Bride's Vision for an Authentic Nikah Outfit
From our very first conversation, Zoya’s vision was crystal clear. She sought an ensemble that was not just beautiful, but deeply personal and true to her heritage.
"For my Nikah I was looking for an outfit that represents my true identity and culture. One that would use traditional Nawabi artisanal handwork in a sophisticated angelic silhouette. Most of all, I wanted to stay away from the cliche red Indian bride, which wouldn’t have been authentic to my roots. When I found House of Kotwara, I immediately knew it was it. The way they honoured Indian craftsman and the legacy of authentic Chikankari and Mukkaish. The timelessness of authentic handwork had an elegance over other trendy options. Moreover, it was refreshing, to meet & work with Sama. Having an opinion and going through the fabric swatches made the dress more personal to me. I loved the addition of the Veil, and the exquisite detail of the blouse. Looking back, I wouldn’t have it any other way." - Zoya
Hearing Zoya articulate her vision with such clarity was incredibly inspiring. As a designer, it’s a privilege to work with a bride who has such a strong sense of self.
Her desire to honour her roots while forging a modern path is at the very heart of what we do at House of Kotwara.
It affirmed to me that we were not just creating a dress, but translating her personal story into a wearable piece of art and an ode to her identity and culture.

Designing the Custom Ivory Bridal Lehenga: The Details
With a vision so pure, my team and I embarked on creating Zoya’s Nikah lehenga. Each element was chosen to contribute to an aura of sophistication and grace.
The lehenga itself was a canvas of Champagne Ivory Chikankari, exquisitely embellished with fine Kaamdani, Aari, Zardosi and delicate pearls.
To ground the look, we finished it with a Bronze Floral Zardozi border, intricately encrusted with pearls and sequins.
The ivory dupatta shimmered with a dance of gold-silver Mukkaish, framed by a silver floral Zardozi border that carried subtle touches of gold.
For the blouse, we introduced a whisper of colour—a soft pastel green, adorned with pink French knots, ivory pearls, and a medley of gold, silver, and bronze sequins. It was this piece that tied the various metallics of the ensemble together with a nostalgic, old-world charm.
A Groom's Perspective on Choosing the Perfect Nikah Lehenga
Abaan’s role in this process was truly special. His keen eye and dedication were instrumental, and his perspective added a wonderful layer to this story.
"I was able to travel back to India and had to pick Zoya’s dress for our Nikkah. Thanks to Sama for explaining the concept and making the selection process as seamless as possible. Sama and Meera were extremely helpful with explaining the details of the dress. It was extremely delightful to work with the designers of the dress. Their recommendations were also helpful to the final look!" - Abaan
Abaan’s words are so kind, and they truly reflect the collaborative spirit of this journey. His involvement was a testament to his partnership with Zoya.

It’s truly a rare and beautiful thing to witness, and his thoughtful approach and trust in our process made the experience a complete joy for me and our entire team at House of Kotwara.
The Final Touch: A Custom Kotwara Kaamdani Veil for the Bridal Lehenga
The most magical part of our journey was when Zoya finally arrived in India. We really wanted her to have personal input in the look, so we left what we could for her to see for herself.

The final touch was an elaborate Kaamdani cowl veil, and watching it come together with her was a highlight of the entire process.
Meeting her in person, after months of correspondence felt like connecting the last piece of a beautiful puzzle. The warmth and immediate bond we formed in the Kotwara Atelier was incredible.

It was in those moments - draping the veil, perfecting the fit - that our digital collaboration transformed into a true personal connection.
The sheer veil, stitched with a delicate cowl that cascaded into a breathtaking trail, was the perfect ethereal frame for our radiant bride.
The Timeless Legacy of a Handcrafted Chikankari Lehenga
In the end, Zoya’s Nikah look was more than just an outfit; it was a narrative woven in thread.
It told a story of heritage, of personal identity, and of a love that transcends distance.

Seeing her in the final creation was a moment of pure fulfillment, a perfect embodiment of the vision she had so eloquently shared. In my opinion, Zoya's words capture this essence perfectly,
"The legacy of authentic Chikankari and Mukkaish, along with the exquisite handiwork designed by Sama and crafted by the Nawabi Artisans of Kotwara, allowed me to represent my identity and culture as an Indian bride in the most sophisticated and angelic silhouette possible." - Zoya
We at House of Kotwara are so honoured to have been a part of Zoya and Abaan's beautiful new beginning.
Their journey is a powerful reminder that true collaboration knows no borders. It reinforces our belief that the most beautiful heirlooms are not just made of fabric and thread, but are woven with the intangible threads of love, trust, and family!
Love,
Sama
